Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra
Saffron Walden Symphony OrchestraPresented by Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra
The Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra conclude their season with a programme of American music and music inspired by America.
An Outdoor Overture was written in 1938 for young musicians to perform and is a beautifully lyrical example of Copland’s work. Gershwin’s Concerto in F was written in 1925, one year after the hugely successful Rhapsody in Blue. It uses jazz styles within it that we all recognise including a bluesy slow movement featuring the trumpet, a cakewalk and ragtime elements. Dvořák’s ever-popular New World Symphony, full of American folk tunes and the famous Largo brings this season to a dramatic close.
